The Bruichladdich Laddie the Classic Ten (10 Yr) Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, is a newer release from one of Islay’s most unique & progressive distillers, Bruichladdich. What makes the Laddie Ten special is that it’s aged in 100% American oak bourbon casks and is the distillery’s first, “flagship” 10 year release. Since reopening the distillery back in 2001 many new whisky’s have come forth but this one is special because it is not a one-time-release.
The style is unpeated so do not expect a blast of Islay peat or iodine. Instead you will find a nice balance of vanilla, salted nuts, subtle citrus with some rich banana in both nose and taste.
A major cheers for Head Distiller, Jim McGewan and his team at Bruichladdich is due here for a simple approach to whisky making without getting caught up in cask finishings. This is a great release for all whisky lovers, especially those who want to try an Islay SMSW, but without all of the peat. Personally I would love to see a peated release of the Laddie Classic Ten just to satisfy my thirst for all things peated.
