Murray & McDavid Mission 1979 Highland Park 1979 SMSW (46% ABV)
We are down to our very LAST bottle of the Murray McDavid Mission Highland Park 1979 (25 Year) SMSW HAND-SIGNED by Master Distiller, Jim McEwan of the Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay. Jim has chosen many casks over the years for the Scottish independent bottler, Murray McDavid, and this special one was chosen from the Highland Park distillery on the isle of Orkney and extra aged on Islay at the Bruichladdich Distillery. Aged for 25 years in oak with the later time spent in bourbon/Guigal Cotes Rotie Syrah wine barrels from the northern Rhone valley in France, for a unique finish. Our very last hand-signed bottle is #717 out of 750 world-wide.
Here are a few fantastic reviews from whisky legends Michael Jackson and Jim Murray;
“Fragrantly peaty. Good flavor development, beautifully balanced as it unfolds. Fragrantly smoky, then nutty, becoming flowery, and finally honeyish. Late, clean, appetizing, smokiness. Very good indeed as a lightish, delicate, interpretation of Highland Park.” – per the late famed whisky writer/critic, Michael Jackson
“A big, slightly brawny, oaky nose with diffused peaty notes. Immediately dry as the oak bites hard, but the peat and honey offer traditional Orcadian riches. Long, with vanilla and rich grapey fruitness. The peat hangs on to the very end. A pretty old and slightly tired malt but the richness of the peat and malt, and the harmony they create, makes this a delicious dram. Big stuff.” – per Jim Murray, creator of the Whisky Bible
