New to Lukas Wine & Spirit’s, Templeton Rye Whiskey (40% ABV)!
The Story of Templeton Rye Whiskey
“When Prohibition outlawed the manufacture and sale of alcoholic beverages in 1920, many enterprising residents of a small town in Iowa chose to become outlaws – producing a high caliber and much sought-after whiskey known as Templeton Rye.
Based on its extremely smooth finish, the American rye whiskey earned the nickname of “The Good Stuff” and quickly brought a certain degree of fame to the doorsteps of Templeton (pop. 350). As the premium brand of the era, Templeton Rye fetched an impressive $5.50 per gallon – or approximately $70 by today’s standards.
Although most American whiskeys ceased production after prohibition ended, Templeton Rye continued to be produced illegally in small quantities for loyal patrons. More than eighty-five years later, the infamous small batch rye whiskey finally returned – made available legally for the first time ever in 2006.” – per the Templeton Rye Whiskey website

For years we have been hearing about this rare rye whiskey from our neighbor above and it had developed such a cult following for rye whiskey connoisseurs. To the extent that people were going through to acquire a bottle, you’d think that it was part of the Pappy Van Winkle Collection. Well last Christmas I was given a bottle of the Templeton Rye Whiskey as a thank you and I have to say it is an amazingly beautiful rye whiskey. For the past few years I have been collecting different rye whiskeys and Templeton is easily the smoothest rye I have ever come across. The balancing act with the aroma, flavor and finish is executed perfectly by Templeton Rye. While I enjoy this amazing rye whiskey neat or with a few droplets of water, I admit it makes one phenomenal Manhattan with some whiskey barrel-aged bitters.
If you are a rye whiskey connoisseur like me or looking into trying rye whiskeys, I highly recommend that you invest in a bottle of Templeton Rye and I guarantee your palate will thank you.
