New to Lukas Wine & Spirits, Ile de Re Fine Island Cognacs!
From the world-famous French cognac maker Camus, comes a new line of cognacs that have been aged on an island that technically resides in the Cognac region of France.
“Ever since its foundation, Maison Camus has been exploring the terroir of the appellation to uncover all its riches and flavors, and the vineyards of the Ile de Re is an island off the West Coast of France and is part of the Charente Maritime department. It is the most westerly region in the cognac appellation, located in the Bois a Terroirs cru. This beautiful, wild island gives these unique cognacs a distinctive personality. Maison Camus cognacs from the Ile de Re are dry, powerful, with a taste of the sea, expressing all the smoothness and fruity aromas of exceptional cognacs.” – per Camus
Ile de Re Fine Island Cognac – “With it’s fresh, marine notes, Camus Ile de Re Fine Island Cognac perfectly expresses the quality and authentic character of the cognacs produced on the island. Distilled on the lees to further enhance the original flavors of the eaux de vie from which it is produced, it is then aged in a damp cellar to give it roundness, in oak casks with subtle tannins that instill a delicate woody flavor”
Tasting Notes
“A cognac with a hint of the sea, which is softened by fruit notes and an incredibly round body. Fresh and light iodized falvors mingle with notes of dried fruits and lead to a slightly salty and very characteristic mellow finish.”
Camus’s Ile de Re Fine Island Double Matured Cognac – “Is powerful, with hints of the sea. This exceptional cognac presents a perfect balance of smoky notes and candied fruits. Distilled on the lees, which enhances original flavor of its eaux de vie, it is the result of a unique aging process. It is first matured on the island in a damp cellar, in casks with light tannins, for roundness and subtly oaky flavor. Then a second aging takes place in Cognac, in barrels that have been slightly charred, giving the cognac a smoky flavor.”
Tasting Notes
“A subglte, delicate balance between smoky notes, candied fruit and a distinctive marine quality.”
Camus Ile de Re Cliffside Cellar Cognac – “This unique cognac is a spicy iodized and very mellow blend of eaux de vie produced, distilled and initially aged in a damp cellar located on the island itself. Its mild character and subtle iodine quality develop during the second aging, on the island, in a cellar situated in the heart of the cliff top Fort de la Pree, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Fort de la Pree was built in 1626 and is a rare example of military architecture from before Vauban.”
Tasting Notes
“This cognac presents various marine flavors and an extraordinary round body.”
Camus Philosophy
“With the aromatic, balanced and authentic style of its cognacs, Maison Camus cultivates its individuality. Since it was founded back in 1863, the House of Camus Cognac has been exploring the terroirs of the appellation, blending and exalting its riches. Drawing on its experience and unique know-how, Maison Camus produces various different cognacs which are richly flavored, diverse, subtle and sophisticated.” – Per Camus
The Camus portfolio of cognacs still to this day is one of my personal favorites here at Lukas Wine & Spirits. Having tried their flagship VS Cognac all the way up to the some spectacular 1979 vintages with Camus Director, Manny Burnichon , I was able to see how true dedication and passion for making quality eaux de vie is finally delivered through the Camus line. Camus is truly taking cognac to the next level of flavor & complexity by introducing the Island Aged Series and having tried all three of them I urge you to try any one of their cognacs and especially one of these newer releases.
Cheers,
