Journeyman Red Arrow Vodka, Batch #10
With roots in Michigan and in the heart of hard-working American towns, this bottle represents community: the things that keep us connected to our values. Share this along your own journey.
*Named for the local road the Red Arrow is a great American Highway.
* Distilled from 100% organic wheat our Vodka is clean, crisp, and smooth.
Journeyman Bilberry Black Hearts Gin, Batch #16
“Indigenous to Britain and northern Europe, the Bilberry highlights our juniper and eight other botanical’s found in our gin. A cousin to the huckleberry and blueberry the bilberry is smaller and of fuller taste and is extremely hard to grow, thus seldom cultivated. The fruit is mostly collected from wild plants growing on public lands. It is an everyman’s right to collect bilberries irrespective of land ownership. The bilberry is dark in color and usually appears black, thus the berry was commonly referred to as a black heart in 19th century south-western England. I hope that this truly unique berry and its flavors of tart fig, pepper, and black licorice rest well on your pallet.
* At 90 proof our gin botanical’s are macerated in a 100% Organic wheat base spirit and then distilled. The definition of small batch each gin run produces less then 10 gallons of distillate.
*Our gin is clean, bright, and fruity with subtle hints of black licorice.
Journeyman W.R. White Whiskey, Batch #13
This bottle is dedicated to the original journeymen: the ones who made the spirit of adventure true. These men took risks and dreamt big; they were entrepreneurs in every sense of the word. With our W.R. whiskey we salute all the journeymen that came before us.
* At 90-proof our W.R. Welter is aged for less than 24 hours in new white oak.
* Its mash bill is the same as the Ravenswood Rye, which is to say it’s a heavily wheated organic rye. The notes on this fresh light product are bright and florally.
*This is surprisingly soft on the pallet for a new-make spirit with a broad examination of the grain on your tongue, unmolested by the barrel. Tasting the raw characteristics of the rye and wheat grain is a special experience.
Journeyman Ravenswood Rye Whiskey, Batch #15
The first batch of this rye was made in the Chicago neighborhood of Ravenswood: this is where it was born. Eventually, production was moved to the Featherbone building, but the history of the spirit is important: vital.
In the summer of 2010, I spent a period of time training in Chicago at Koval Distillery (located in the Ravenswood neighborhood), learning the trade but also putting rye whiskey in barrels. That time was invaluable in terms of education, but it also allowed Journeyman Distillery the opportunity to have a wonderfully aged rye whiskey to bottle for opening day. Our distillation runs at Koval were limited, so we only have a wee bit of Ravenswood Rye to offer. This Ravenswood Rye “Chicago” will be offered in a very limited supply of 750 375ml bottles, in tandem with our W.R. Whiskey. This will be available in a unique barn wood holder made from wood from our family farm in central Indiana.
*The mash bill consists of a heavily wheated Organic Rye from Kansas, allowing for the spice of the rye to shine through with a delicate balance of soft aromatic notes. It has hints of butterscotch on the nose with a smoothness on the pallet only found with organic quality grain produced on Kothe equipment.
*At 90-proof, our first batch of Ravenswood Rye made at Journeyman Distillery will be matured in new white oak charred 15-gallon barrels. Through our experimental batch, we found that the 15-gallon barrel provided the best balance of flavor. The mash bill will consist of the same balance of rye and wheat. Our grain sources have changed with our wheat coming from the great state of Michigan and our rye from Minnesota.
Journeyman Silver Cross Four Grain Whiskey, Batch #9
Originally, the Silver Cross was given as a medal of golf in the early days of the British Open. The Silver Cross would later come to symbolize friendship, tradition, camaraderie and spirited competition. This whiskey, is a tribute to the greatest game, both its beginnings and its future. Once percent of all proceeds will be donated for the betterment of the game of golf.
* Mash bill consisting of corn, wheat, rye and malted barley.
* Aged for 6 months in 5 gallon oak barrels.
*One percent of the sale of the product is going toward, in Michigan, the First Tee program in Benton Harbor is a national organization where they try to get kids off the street and on the golf course.
