1792 Ridgemont Reserve Barrel Select KSBW, Barrel #DSP-KY-12
“Lukas Barrel Committee Selection #2” Spring 2013 Release
This past January 31st I sat down with four of our amazing customers to help kickoff the official, “Lukas Barrel Committee” and help select the very first, two, Committee Barrel’s. That evening we nosed and tasted many different barrel samples and finally selected one that was deemed perfect and worthy of a Lukas bottling. And our second barrel selection was the classic 1792 Ridgemont Reserve Barrel Select KSBW. Selecting 1792 Ridgemont Reserve Barrel Select KSBW Barrel #DSP-KY-12 was a first for Lukas and is now at home with the many hand-selected single barrel Bourbon’s that we carry daily.
Thanks to our customers Eric Musial, Adam Little, Larry & Linda Alexander, we were able to select and bring this amazingly smooth yet flavorful whiskey to your home or to make that perfect gift.
The Story of 1792 Ridgemont Reserve Barrel Select KSBW
“When it comes to statehood, 1792 was Kentucky’s year. When it comes to smooth handcrafted bourbon, this will be yours.
To commemorate this significant year, we proudly offer 1792 Ridgemont Reserve Barrel Select – the official toasting bourbon of the Kentucky Bourbon Festival. Our rye recipe Bourbon Whiskey yields a more complex, full bodied, multi-dimensional taste. Each bottle of 1792 Ridgemont Reserve is handcrafted in small batches, bottled at 93.7 proof and aged for 8 years in new charred oak barrels. The result is a distinctively smooth pour, equally worthy of rare occasions and everyday enjoyment – add 1792 to your spirits collection and enjoy the “Toast of Kentucky”.
The Barton 1792 Distillery operates on the site of the historic Tom Moore distillery, established in 1879 near the “Tom Moore Spring”, the same spring we draw our iron-free limestone water today. The 192-acre distillery is home to our 28 aging warehouse. The legendary ‘Warehouse Z’ stands tall on the western bluff enjoying summer sun & optimal air-circulation for aging bourbon whiskey. It is in the warehouse that 1792 Ridgemont Reserve ages to the peak of maturity.” – per 1792 Ridgemont Reserve
Lukas Barrel Committee Tasting Notes
For Barrel Sample #DSP-KY-12
Nose: Banana & clove with the rye bursting through in classic exuberance. Immediately followed with notes of bubblegum and bing cherries in vanilla-bean cream. With a dab of water a delicious sugared icing covered baked cherries on a pastry. A solid, yet gentle background of oak seems to hold the aromas together and continually complement each one.
Taste: Big rye explodes with loads of fruity notes. I was not immediately ready for such a lively display of that much fruit. The oak immediately follows right behind and establishes its backbone of holding things together. More cherries & now honeyed-almonds are rounded off by the entertainingly new bubblegum-like juiciness. Fresh grass clippings with a definite Kentucky soil-like earthiness starts to round things off. Even with that said there is still a lot of interplay with the flavors which add more depth and complexity to explore.
Finish: Just keeps going. The banana & clove flavors finally reappear & pair perfectly with the warming oak flavor. Seriously enjoying this this barrel sample and as I look at the rest of the Lukas Barrel Committee Members, we know this barrel will become the Barrel Committee’s 2nd Release in time for spring.
