Nikka Taketsuru 12 Year & Yoichi 15 Year Japanese Whisky’s

New to Lukas Liquor Superstore

Nikka Taketsuru 12 Year Pure Malt & Yoichi 15 Year Single Malt Whisky

Japanese Whisky’s

Founded by Masataka Taketsuru in 1934, Nikka Whisky was established and the Yoichi Distillery was built. Since then the Nikka Whisky Distilling Company has become a world renowned maker of Japanese whisky’s that have brought many awards and accolades over the decades.

What we now have to offer our loyal Lukas whisky connoisseurs are two new Japanese whisky’s from the Nikka Distillery:

Taketsuru 12 Year Pure Malt (40% ABV) – Malt whiskies matured for 12 years or more at the Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries are blended in vats to produce this outstanding pure malt whisky.

Yoichi 15 Year Single Malt Whisky (45% ABV) – This single malt whisky from the Yoichi distillery, stored and matured for 15 years or more, is characterized by its mature and ample nose and smooth, silky palate.

Nikka’s two malt whisky distilleries:

Yoichi Distillery: Produces rich, peaty and masculine malt. The whisky gets its distinct aroma and body from direct heating distillation, in which the pot stills are heated with finely powdered natural coal, the traditional method that is hardly ever used today, even in Scotland. The Yoichi Distillery rests about 35 miles west of Sapporo City in southern Hokkaido, which is the northernmost of Japan’s four principal islands, and was one of the last Japanese frontiers to be developed and also has three sides surrounded by mountains, and one side on the coast (Sea of Japan).

Miyagikyo Distillery: The location was selected for whisky production because of its clean air, just the right humidity for storage, and abundant underground water filtered through a layer of peat. In Yoichi, Masataka Taketsuru, saw numerous reminders of Scotland, and this convinced him that this should be the home of Japanese Whisky. The Miyagikyo Distillery is also in northern Japan, in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, northern Honshu. Travelling in the area one day, Masataka came upon this site completely enclosed by mountains and sandwiched between two rivers. He immediately knew that this was the perfect site for whisky distilling. Sendai’s fresh water, suitable humidity and crisp air produce soft and mild malt.
