Kinahan’s Irish Whiskey
Kinahan’s L.L. Small Batch Blended Irish Whiskey
“We handcraft our Blended Irish Whiskey by carefully maturing it in the finest oak casks for a minimum of six years. The matured whiskey is then skillfully blended to deliver the smooth taste profile that is unique to a forgotten Irish Whiskey of ‘L.L.’ flavor.” – per Kinahan’s
Kinahan’s L.L. 10 Year-Old Single Malt Irish Whiskey
“Our Single Malt Irish Whiskey has been matured exclusively in ex-bourbon barrels for at least 10 years. Our Malt Master carefully samples the aged whiskey, cask by cask. He will only select single malt which overlays the original mellow, rich and full flavored character that is unique to a forgotten Irish Whiskey of ‘L.L.’ flavor. The Whisky is matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon and Sherry casks.” – per Kinahan’s
The History of Kinahans’s and the ‘L.L.’
Kinahan’s was founded in 1779 on Trinity Street, Dublin. In 1807 Kinahan’s attracted the attention of Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, so much so that he ordered barrels of the whiskey to be kept exclusively for himself. This resulted in each cask being marked ‘L.L.’ (Lord Lieutenant).
By the mid-19th Century Kinahan’s L.L. whiskey came to the attention of many American connoisseurs, including Jerry Thomas, “the father of American mixology.” Kinahan’s L.L. is known to have been the whiskey of choice for Jerry Thomas since 1862.
Following a sharp decline in the Irish whiskey industry at the start of the 20th century, the family decided to take a break from one of Dublin’s most prominent whiskey brands.
In March 2014, Kinahans Irish Whiskey reopened its doors on Trinity Street, Dublin, with the sole purpose of bringing back and reviving “A Forgotten Irish Whiskey.”
Exactly like 200 years ago, Kinahan’s Irish Whiskey is still matured only in the finest handpicked oak casks. The aged whiskey is still carefully sampled cask by cask to select only the whiskey, which overlays unusually mellow, rich and full flavored character. Bottled at 46% abv, with non-chill filtration, Kinahan’s Irish Whiskey today matches the original whiskey since 1779.
Fortunately I’ve tried both of these newly released Irish whiskeys and they are absolutely solid across the board on quality, taste and price. These are Irish whiskeys for serious connoisseurs and those whom are casually entering the whiskey realm.
