Have you ever wondered about some of the basics of what we do or who we are here at Lukas Wine and Spirits?

Q: What year did Lukas Wine and Spirits open?

A: Our original location opened on the summer of 2000. We moved into our current building in the summer of 2015.

Q: Why don’t you sell cigarettes?

A: In a effort to embody what defines a “real” liquor store, we have chosen to not sell the following items: cigarettes, lottery tickets and adult entertainment.  By not selling these items, we also reduce the amount of underage traffic that comes through our doors.

Q: Speaking of underage, I was in there with my girlfriend who isn’t 21, and your cashier wouldn’t let me buy my stuff.  But then a mother and daughter walked out with things purchased.  What’s up with that?

A: It is well known that to purchase alcohol anywhere in the United States, you have to be 21.  We take it a step further to ensure the safety of our community by not allowing anyone to make a purchase of alcohol if someone is with them that is underage.  The exception to this policy is if the person making the purchase is a parent or direct guardian to the person that is underage.

Q: Why don’t you give out boxes?

A: We like to make sure that every customer that makes a purchase and needs a box, gets a box.  While it may appear that we have a surplus of boxes on hand at most times, our supply is usually exhausted by week’s end.  If you are in desperate need for wine, liquor or beer boxes, most of the supermarkets just discard of theirs, and will usually part with excess boxes upon request.

Q: Why can’t you get the beer I am after?  (Yuengling, Tree House, Three Floyds, Westvleteren, etc.)

A: It might seem frustrating being able to purchase an item while on vacation, only to come home and be told it is not available.  While we work with dozens of local and national distributors, unless the item you are looking for is licensed for retail sales in Missouri, we cannot have it on our shelves.

Q: Why won’t you give out prices over the phone?

A: It is our store policy to never give out prices over the phone or internet.  This is a policy we adopted years ago and have decided to stick with.  While it may seem a dis-advantage to not hand out prices, we feel that we are competitive and comprehensive enough with our selection that price should never be a worry.

Q: Do you fill kegs and or CO2 cartridges?

A: When a keg is purchased from our store, we simply hand off a new keg to the customer.  The empty shell is then returned to that keg’s distributor, washed, cleaned and filled again for the next sale.  No re-filling of a beer is ever done within our walls.  Lukas Wine and Spirits also does not handle any type of hazardous gas, so we cannot refill any canisters for home usage.

Q: Why do I have to fill out paperwork to rent a keg?

A: In the summer of 2004, Missouri instituted a statewide law that all kegs had to be registered to the person making the purchase.  When you purchase a keg, your information is kept on hand in case there is any type of issue involving the keg.

Q: Do you ship alcohol? Will you deliver?

A: We are able to ship alcohol to a limited amount of states: Alaska, California, Idaho, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington D.C. and Wyoming. Each state sets their own laws when it comes to shipping and receiving alcohol, so we will adhere to each state’s laws.

We will do deliveries within the Greater St. Louis area via a courier service and with each delivery there will be a service charge. No employee of Lukas Wine and Spirits is allowed to make a personal delivery.

Q: Do you sell gift baskets?

A: Years ago, we did offer a gift basket service. However, as time went on, we found that the orders for gift baskets were few and far between, so it became another service we decided to cease.

Q: Can I buy one of your display pieces or posters?

A: All of the promotional display pieces you see in our store were given to us by our area distributors. Most of the time, display pieces will be re-used or be given back to the distributors when the display is finished.

  1. Return policy- looking to have a large xmas party; what is your policy on returning unopened bottles of wine or what is your return policy in general if you have one?

    1. Dan,

      We will take back unopened bottles of wine and spirits as long as they are resaleable. This includes that the seals are intact and the labels are not torn. We cannot take back any leftover beer. If you return over $150 worth of product, you will be assessed a 10% restocking fee. (return $200, we charge you $20)

      Unfortunately none of those particular N/A beers are available in our market. We do have a small selection of N/A beers available, but they are the usual ones you would find on a Missouri shelf, both imported and domestic.

  2. I absolutely love your store! I was wondering if you could get the Pineapple Shandy from Traveler. It is in a 12 Pack Variety pack and I really want it so much! Currently they are also offering a variety pack with a Strawberry Shandy and I cannot seem to find it no matter where I search! Is there anyway you could carry it? Thank you!
