Thank You For Participating

2013 Pappy/Antique Lottery

Officially Over

Lukas Liquor Superstore has officially completed its 2013 Pappy/Antique Lottery as of this afternoon. After two entire days dedicated to pulling lottery ticket numbers and contacting all lucky winners we are announcing that all of the bottles have been officially reserved and/or spoken for. Basically we are all SOLD OUT.

We also wanted to take a moment and thank our loyal Lukas customers and many new faces that participated in the 2013 Pappy/Antique Lottery, making it our largest to date and most successful. The excitement in the store, handshakes and smiles are worth the work that goes into this highly anticipated lottery each year.

For many people, Lukas was fortunate in fulfilling that lucky chance at acquiring a single bottle of some of the rarest whiskey’s on the planet, while for others we simply just did not have enough left by the time we pulled their ticket.

The Lukas Liquor Lottery System was created to make things as fair as possible for all of those out there looking for a chance and acquiring a bottle of Pappy or Antique Collection. Whether you’re a longtime customer or your first visit, we appreciate your business and support. Here at Lukas everyone is welcome to participate during Lottery Signups each year and we will NEVER require a person to purchase or buy a product to enter into a lottery like other local liquor stores & shops are doing. Our Lottery is 100% open and free to anyone willing to participate each fall. We treasure your business and will NEVER force you to participate.

With that said, from the Lukas Liquor Superstore Staff, thank you to everyone who participated and who would like to participate next year. If you ever have a question regarding the Lottery System here at Lukas or any of the Pappy Van Winkle or Antique Collection Whiskey’s, please stop on by the store, call or email us. We are always answering questions and helping people with these whiskeys.

For any of you that are looking for detailed information regarding the Antique Collection, below are the technical detail sheets for each whiskey. We thought it would be an added bonus:

Willet 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

New Rare & Limited Release at Lukas Liquor Superstore

Willet 10 Year Straight Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey

Family Estate Bottled Single Barrel Bourbon

Willet Straight Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey

The Willet Story

The earliest Willett, from this particular Willett family branch, that we can trace back to with 100% certainty is Edward Willett, who was born on October 19, 1657 in Hertford, England. Exactly when Edward was brought to America by his uncle, Charles Willett, is up for debate. Mary Louise Donnelly, who wrote Edward Willett, Colonial Maryland Pewterer, County Clerk, Plantation Owner, His Ancestors and Descendants, states, “it was probably as early as 1666.” This much we know – Edward was in Maryland as a young boy. In 1674 he was sent to London to learn the pewter trade. Edward Willett’s first cousin, Richard Willett, was a London pewterer who received his pewter mark in London around 1660. Richard’s mark included the “willett” bird, as did Edward’s. At times, the family coat-of-arms was used as an inscription on the pewterer’s touch. Towards the latter portion of the 1600’s the touches appeared with the maker’s names. Edward Willett incorporated both practices in his touch.

The Whiskey

Willett Family Estate Bottled Bourbon is a very unusual whiskey in many regards. The Bourbon label exists for the sole purpose of our family’s Private Barrel Selection Program, and is the only label of its kind in existence. It is an un-chill-filtered, barrel proof, straight bourbon whiskey of unusual depth and complexity.

Aged in Hand Selected White Oak Barrels for 10 Years

Hand Bottled from Barrel No. 208

61.65% ABV (123.3 Proof)

There are only a few bottles available of the Willet 10 Year Straight Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey so it is a first come, first serve in store only release.

Masterson’s 12 Year Straight Wheat Whiskey

New Release to Lukas Liquor Superstore

Masterson’s 12 Year-Old

Straight Wheat Whiskey

*Limited Release*

Masterson's 12 Year Straight Wheat Whiskey

As an Old West marshal, gambler, newspaperman and boxing promoter, Bat Masterson was always searching for the next great thing. Which is why he would’ve marveled at this wheat whiskey– with its woody, vanilla nose and smooth, chocolate-like finish.

The Whiskey

Masterson’s Wheat is crafted with choice Canadian wheat and mineral-rich glacial lake water, and it’s distilled in an old-fashioned copper pot – a symbol of the timeless craftsmanship that went into this whiskey. Aging occurs in white oak casks and takes 12 years for the whiskey to completely mellow.

Oak barrels are one of the many ways Masterson’s attains its unique taste profile. And white oak has the tightest grain and is heavier than other oak wood, allowing the wood to maintain its integrity during the twelve-year aging process while imparting a subtle but distinct flavor.

Masterson’s 10 Year Straight Barley Whiskey

New Release to Lukas Liquor Superstore

Masterson’s 10 Year-Old

Straight Barley Whiskey

“Limited Edition”

Masterson's 10 Year Straight Barley Whiskey

Like the key ingredient in this whiskey, Bat Masterson was made of the West. A buffalo hunter, U.S. Marshal, gambler and newspaperman, Masterson was a man of refined character who would’ve loved the pleasing complexity of this whiskey.

The Whiskey

Masterson’s Barley is crafted with choice Canadian barley and mineral-rich glacial water, and it’s double distilled, helping to preserve the barley’s full flavor. The whiskey is then aged in white oak casks for 10 years to mellow and refine.

Aroma & Flavor

On the nose, you’ll discover a sweet sensation with hints of woody must, along with earth and oak. The taste is distinctly smooth, light and summery, featuring a fruit aftertaste that bursts in the mouth without being too powerful.

Hands down one of the most unique whiskey’s I have come across lately. A very complex bouquet of caramel, toffee and creamy malt with a perfectly matched taste. There is a lot of exploring to do with this fun new whiskey. This will become a highly sought-after limited edition release that’s for sure, so act fast.

Angels Envy KSBW Lukas Liquor Edition

“From the Cellars of Lincoln Henderson”

Back this past September I had the honor of meeting with Angel’s Envy “Guardian of Whiskey”, Mark Boweaks and having him help assist us in creating our very own blend of Angels Envy KSBW. Unfortunately on that very day it was announced that Angel’s Envy founder and Bourbon Legend, Lincoln Henderson had just passed away at the age of 75. The mood was sad and yet reflective upon the loss of someone like Lincoln. For a long while, Mark had shared with me many stories and accomplishments that Lincoln had done over the years. Some I knew of, others I did not but in the end I realized how special Angel’s Envy was to Lincoln and his family.  He will be missed, but always remembered.

Lincoln Henderson

“The Art of Blending”

& Why I Love My Job

Mark had brought to us three different barrel samples that we would use to create this unique blend. Sample A was extremely bright and shimmering with rye and honey. Sample B was more balanced with vanilla, a sturdy oakiness adding depth and balance to the whiskey. Sample C was absolutely amazing all around with complex rich chocolate notes all throughout the bouquet and flavor. We automatically knew that Sample C would be the building block upon this blend.

After familiarizing ourselves with the barrel samples, Mark went about showing me the process of how Angel’s Envy is blended. We took each barrel sample and added different increments into a beaker, nosed and tasted each one. During this process we kept a journal of the exact amounts being added and subtracted per each newly created blend.  All together we created over 15 different blends and narrowed it down to a final 3, then down to the one that is now here in the store.

Angel’s Envy “Lukas Liquor Edition” Barrel Increments

Barrel Sample A 21% (shimmering, honeyed-rye)

Barrel Sample B 22% (balanced with oak)

Barrel Sample C 57% (big, complex chocolate)

Angels Envy Barrel Head

The entire process took almost two hours and was well worth the time spent. The passion and quality that Mark and the people at Angel’s Envy have offered Lukas and now our amazing customers is something to behold. Over the years I have selected many different “single barrels” but never a blended whiskey. I and Lukas Liquor Superstore are proud to offer this new hand-selected whiskey for our customers and know that you will enjoy it as much as we did creating it specifically for you.

Final Tasting Notes

Nose: Soft, yet asserting bouquet. Complex  array of dark baked fruits covered in chocolate. Vanilla wood-sugar and honey. Hints of spiced orange and banana. With a splash of water the aromas open up an even larger canopy of fruitiness. Clove sprinkled bananas.

Taste: Creamy mouth-feel. Beautiful marriage of chocolate, vanilla and rye. The added depth of chocolate is everywhere. The rye grain brings up the back end with a juicy spiced honey, then changing over to more chocolate. With a little added water the entire whiskey shifts gears and opens up to reveal an excellent balance of fruity notes and spiced chocolate covered bananas.

Finish: Warm, silky and lingering. The chocolate notes fade with a playful spiciness of the rye grain. Perfect for an after dinner whiskey.

Mega thanks to the late Lincoln Henderson and Mark Boweak of Angel’s Envy for their help in making this blended whiskey happen and we owe the world to our outstanding Lukas Liquor Superstore customers who make these special barrels become a reality. Without your support and business, none of this would be possible.

Lukas Liquor Superstore’s Angel’s Envy Special Blend yielded approximately 360 bottles so we have more than enough to go around.

High West American Prairie Reserve

New Release to Lukas Liquor Superstore

High West American Prairie Reserve

Blend of Straight Bourbon’s

High West Whiskey American Prairie Reserve

High West Distillery is passionate about the American West’s culture, heritage, and natural beauty and wants to raise awareness of one of the most fantastic projects of our time: the American Prairie Reserve in northeastern Montana. We tip our hats to this amazing effort to assemble the largest wildlife reserve in the lower 48 states. When stepping onto the plains of American Prairie Reserve, it is not difficult to imagine the landscape as Lewis and Clark and Native Americans saw it, with thundering herds of bison, racing bands of pronghorn antelope and prairie dog towns dotting the horizon. When the Reserve is complete, it will be approximately 5,000 square miles, or roughly the size of Connecticut. On the front label: the stunning greater sage grouse is just one of the many beautiful species that call the American prairie home. Habitat destruction has led to steep declines in sage grouse populations across the West and the bird is now a candidate for Endangered Species Act protection. However, these beautiful birds still thrive on the Reserve. Visit in early spring to see male sage grouse vying for mates as they “dance” on the breeding ground, called a lek.

The High West American Prairie Reserve consists of the following two Bourbon whiskeys:

Whiskey #1: 6 year old Bourbon. Mashbill from 75% Corn, 20% rye, 5% barley malt.

Whiskey #2: 10 year old Bourbon. Mashbill from 60% Corn, 35% rye, and 5% barley malt.

We recommend that if you are an enthusiast of Bourbon and blended whiskeys that you stop on by Lukas Liquor Superstore and check out not only the new High West American Prairie Reserve, but also the other High West Whiskeys that we carry in stock:
