Woodford Reserve Masters Collection Double Malt Selections

What is Woodford Reserve’s “Master’s Collection”?

In the early 1800s, the Woodford County Distillery, thanks to owner Oscar Pepper and Master Distiller James Crow, was the site for landmark discoveries and innovative techniques in bourbon-making.

Pepper and Crow are credited with refining and defining key processes such as sour mashing, yeast propagation, copper pot distillation and the maturing of whiskey in new, charred oak casks. Their work defined bourbon and subsequently rye whiskey as we know them today.

Woodford Reserve Distillery’s Master Collection honors the pioneering work of Pepper and Crow, applying their handcrafted methods to a variety of grain recipes, fermentation styles and maturation processes to create a range of unique whiskeys.

The Story of the Master’s Collection 2013 “Double Malt Selection”

Globally, whiskey is presented in a wide range of flavor profiles, often described as either Old World or New World in style. Old World whisk(e)ys (Scotch, Irish, etc.) typically have a grain-focused flavor profile, and those of the New World (Bourbon, Tennessee, etc.) highlight the impact of new-oak cask maturation.

The Double Malt Selection affords you the rare opportunity for a side-by-side barrel style comparison so you can see and taste the difference for yourself. Both bottles feature a malt recipe spirit that was uniquely triple distilled in Woodford Reserve’s copper pot stills; the primary difference is in their maturation. We like to say that one is ‘grain forward’ and the other more ‘barrel forward.’

Each year Woodford Reserve releases these rare experimental whiskeys in the fall and once they are gone, that’s it for that particular whiskey… never to be repeated again. Lukas Liquor Superstore has an extremely limited amount of the Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection “Double Malt Selections” bottles available for sale. They are individually priced 750ML bottles with no limit on how many you may purchase.

Woodford Reserve Tasting & Bottle Signing

Upcoming Tasting & Bottle Signing

At Lukas Liquor Superstore

Chris Morris Master Distiller for Woodford Reserve

When: Saturday November 23, 2013

Time: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Please stop on by Lukas Liquor Superstore this upcoming 11/23/2013 and meet Woodford Reserve’s Master Distiller, Chris Morris. Mr. Morris will be sampling the classic Woodford Reserve KSBW and the amazing Woodford Double Oaked, talking everything bourbon and hand-signing bottles for purchase. This tasting event is complimentary and DOES NOT REQUIRE a reservation (must be 21 years-of-age to attend).

The Story of Chris Morris

As just the seventh Master Distiller in Brown-Forman Corporation’s 140-year history, Chris Morris is responsible for maintaining the award-winning taste of Woodford Reserve.

A Louisville native, Morris has been around bourbon his whole life. His dad was a production manager and his mother worked in the art department at Brown-Forman.

Morris has spent most of his working life promoting Brown-Forman brands. His career with Brown-Forman began in 1976 as a trainee in the Central lab working for the Master Distiller.

In 1988, he transitioned to Glenmore Distilleries Company, where he worked as brand manager for their North American Whiskies Group. Morris joined United Distillers through their acquisition of Glenmore in 1991 and quickly assumed the role of Bourbon Portfolio Brands Development Manager, where he developed new bourbon brands, designed and directed sales and trade programs and served as the company’s global bourbon brand ambassador.

In 1997, Morris returned to Brown-Forman and, subsequently, was chosen to begin training as its 7th Master Distiller.

In a way, he compares himself to Brown-Forman’s founder George Garvin Brown, who personally guarded the taste profile of his brands. “I love keeping involved with the crafting of the brand,” says Morris.

Additionally, he serves as brand ambassador for Brown-Forman at numerous trade and consumer functions.

Looking for an ultra-special holiday gift? A hand-signed bottle by Chris Morris of Woodford Reserve would make your gift that much more special!

Willet 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

New Rare & Limited Release at Lukas Liquor Superstore

Willet 10 Year Straight Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey

Family Estate Bottled Single Barrel Bourbon

Willet Straight Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey

The Willet Story

The earliest Willett, from this particular Willett family branch, that we can trace back to with 100% certainty is Edward Willett, who was born on October 19, 1657 in Hertford, England. Exactly when Edward was brought to America by his uncle, Charles Willett, is up for debate. Mary Louise Donnelly, who wrote Edward Willett, Colonial Maryland Pewterer, County Clerk, Plantation Owner, His Ancestors and Descendants, states, “it was probably as early as 1666.” This much we know – Edward was in Maryland as a young boy. In 1674 he was sent to London to learn the pewter trade. Edward Willett’s first cousin, Richard Willett, was a London pewterer who received his pewter mark in London around 1660. Richard’s mark included the “willett” bird, as did Edward’s. At times, the family coat-of-arms was used as an inscription on the pewterer’s touch. Towards the latter portion of the 1600’s the touches appeared with the maker’s names. Edward Willett incorporated both practices in his touch.

The Whiskey

Willett Family Estate Bottled Bourbon is a very unusual whiskey in many regards. The Bourbon label exists for the sole purpose of our family’s Private Barrel Selection Program, and is the only label of its kind in existence. It is an un-chill-filtered, barrel proof, straight bourbon whiskey of unusual depth and complexity.

Aged in Hand Selected White Oak Barrels for 10 Years

Hand Bottled from Barrel No. 208

61.65% ABV (123.3 Proof)

There are only a few bottles available of the Willet 10 Year Straight Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey so it is a first come, first serve in store only release.

Masterson’s 12 Year Straight Wheat Whiskey

New Release to Lukas Liquor Superstore

Masterson’s 12 Year-Old

Straight Wheat Whiskey

*Limited Release*

Masterson's 12 Year Straight Wheat Whiskey

As an Old West marshal, gambler, newspaperman and boxing promoter, Bat Masterson was always searching for the next great thing. Which is why he would’ve marveled at this wheat whiskey– with its woody, vanilla nose and smooth, chocolate-like finish.

The Whiskey

Masterson’s Wheat is crafted with choice Canadian wheat and mineral-rich glacial lake water, and it’s distilled in an old-fashioned copper pot – a symbol of the timeless craftsmanship that went into this whiskey. Aging occurs in white oak casks and takes 12 years for the whiskey to completely mellow.

Oak barrels are one of the many ways Masterson’s attains its unique taste profile. And white oak has the tightest grain and is heavier than other oak wood, allowing the wood to maintain its integrity during the twelve-year aging process while imparting a subtle but distinct flavor.
