For the month of May, the Lukas Wine Departtment has selected three wines that are great choices to kick off your summer of wine.
–Gary’s pick: Murphy-Goode Sauvignon Blanc “The Fume.” This wine received 90 points from Wine Spectator and for under $15, is a near unbeatable Sauvignon Blanc.
–Tim’s Pick: Charles & Charles Rose. This Washington state Rose, made from 100% Syrah, is the best answer to the question “what will I serve on my patio?”
–Jon’s pick: Tamari Torrontes. Jon is the “newest” addition to the Wine Department and he has come out swinging! This Argentine delight is a great alternative to Un-Oaked Chardonnay or Viognier.

For any drink calling for a heat component (such as a tabasco or hot sauce) this would be a natural choice. Outstanding Bloody Marys and interesting Corpse Reviver-type morning drinks. Mixed reviews with our martini attempts. Goes well with chocolate. Also a great accompaniment to smoked fish or game.

2 oz. Seagram’s Moscato
3 large basil leaves, plus more for garnish
Keep your Seagram’s Moscato in the freezer–it tastes best ice cold, and also helps keep your cocktails cool. Combine the basil and Seagram’s Moscato in a shaker. Use a muddler to smash up the basil. (If you don’t have one, chop the basil before adding to the shaker.) Add ice, and shake thoroughly. Fill a tumbler with ice and strain the vodka/basil over the ice. Then cover with ginger beer, and stir briefly before serving. Garnish with more basil if desired.
