Also in stock is He’brew Reunion Ale ’11
“Teaming up with Shmaltz Brewing for the first time, Terrapin Beer Co. returns for a third year as a production partner for Reunion ’11. We brew Reunion each year in memory of our dear friend and partner in this venture – Virginia MacLean. Virginia lost her battle with Multiple Myeloma in 2007. It was her wish that we continue to raise funds and awareness on behalf of The Institute for Myeloma and Bone Cancer Research (www.imbcr.org). This year’s beer is a dark ale brewed with cocoa nibs, vanilla and chili peppers. It was inspired by a fantastic dessert that we used to share with Virginia at our favorite restaurant. This brown ale leads with a sweet and subtle spicy aroma. The flavor begins with complex malt overtones and quickly gives way to a chocolate and vanilla mix of satisfying bliss. Just when you thought it was over, the heat from the chilies sneaks in and coats your tongue with tantalizing heat. Many thanks to all who have supported this project and have helped us honor Virginia’s memory. Cheers – Pete and Alan”
Bubbling under is an Ardbeg of hidden depths. Extremely fierce charring of the cask – ‘alligator char’ – gives Ardbeg a unique spicy bite that’ll catch you unawares. Charge your glass with a splash of water and roll it around and around in your jaws!
Alligator is the name of the deepest way of charring casks. It refers to the resulting scale-like pattern of burnt wood, similar to a croc’s skin. Almost all bourbon makers use this type of charring, but for Scotch distilleries it’s quite uncommon. Make sure you grab a bottle of this soon!
“Our Nommo Dubbel has a brilliant deep amber color and a sweet caramel malt profile. This beer showcases the coriander, cinnamon, and star anise used in the kettle, complementing them with clove and banana notes contributed by the Belgian yeast. The rich complexity of Nommo’s flavor makes it a worthy partner to a variety of meats and game, as well as aged or aromatic cheeses. The name “Nommo” is derived from a Dogon word meaning “to make one drink.” No, really. Nommo, usually described as amphibious, hermaphroditic, fish-like creatures, were created by the sky god Amma, who caused them to multiply by splitting them into doubled sets of twins. Maybe it’s farfetched, but we think the story of the Nommo makes this whole enterprise a little more fun and interesting.”
