Caol Ila Stitchell Reserve

“Unpeated Malt”

Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

 Caol Ila Stitchell Reserve

An Unpeated Expression

This unpeated limited edition, natural cask strength Caol Ila (59.6% ABV), has been aged in three kinds of cask reserved for taste alone. It has a clean and fresh as the pale sky that follows clearing rain, its intense flavors dancing across the tongue like flecks of foam over wind-blasted waves.

Billy Stitchell of Caol Ila

In His Own Words

“How many can say that they have spent their entire working life in a place where their forbearers all worked too? I’m proud to say that I can. I have worked at the Caol Ila Distillery for 40 years; as a manager for 15 years of that time. When I came to work here my father, my grandfathers, my great-grandfather and my great-great-grandfather had done so before me.

Five generations and over 130 years of our know-how has gone into this small batch of Stitchell Reserve and I think you’ll find it a magnificent Caol Ila. It’s a natural cask strength malt aged in refill American Oak, ex-Bodega European Oak and rejuvenated American Oak casks reserved for taste alone, to give us an exciting whisky.

The nose is clean, aromatic and fresh, softly sweet, the fruity, with a late honey and wisp of smoke. Intense and mouth-filling, with a wonderfully smooth texture, it has a great surge of sweet spiciness on the palate and a honeyed, warming character, with a spicy-dry finish. I’m, proud it bears our name.”

Bruichladdich The Classic Laddie Unpeated

New Release at Lukas Liquor Superstore

Bruichladdich

The Classic Laddie

Scottish Barley Unpeated

Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Bruichladdich The Clasic Laddie Scottish Barley Unpeated

Floral & Elegant

This single malt Scotch whisky has been crafted by master distiller Jim McEwan from individually selected casks to showcase the classic, floral and elegant Bruichladdich house style. Unpeated, it is our signature bottling and the definitive Bruichladdich.

Made from 100% Scottish barley, trickle distilled, then matured for its entire life by the shores of Lochindaal in premium American oak, it is a testament to the quality our ingredients. This is authenticity. We believe barley matters.

Jim McEwan of Bruichladdich

Tasting Notes – From Bruichladdich’s Head Distiller, Jim McEwan

Character: Smooth as pebbles in a pool. It’s clean, fresh and lively with both the oak and the grain in perfect harmony.

Color: Sunlight on fields of early summer barley.

Nose: The bouquet is brilliant. Opening with barley sugar and a hint of mint before leading into the most wonderful notes of freshly cut wild flowers; buttercup, daisy, meadowsweet, myrtle, primrose and cherry blossom. The cleanliness of the spirit is remarkable. As the seconds tick by, more aromas rise from the glass, little zephyrs of spindrift and sea pinks reminding you that this spirit is matured exclusively by the sea. After some four or five minutes and with the addition of a little water, caramelized fruits drift onto the scene; lemon drops and honey, tangerine and tablet.

Taste: The palate entry is so refined and refreshing, the sweet oak and the barley arriving together sending the taste buds into raptures. The fruits from distillation drift in on an Atlantic breeze and pop on the tongue like champagne bubbles. A combination of ripe green fruit, brown sugar and sweet malt bring closure. A taste back in time, a realization that not all single malts are equal and to achieve the absolute optimum, you must use barley that is made in Scotland. Make this one the benchmark for all others you meet on your journey through the stills of Scotland.

Finish: Unforgettable! Its best enjoyed in good company, you just don’t want the evening to end. It brings warmth to the heart and soul. The clock slows down and the cares of tomorrow disappear into the dawn.

Cheers,

-Adam M England

Octomore Super Heavily Peated 6.1 Scottish Barley

New Release at Lukas Liquor Superstore

Octomore

Super Heavily Peated 06.1 Scottish Barley

Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

 Octomore Scottish Barley

The World’s Peatiest Whisky

The world’s most heavily peated whisky, this is the sixth edition of the uber-experimental cult Octomore.

Titanic amounts of peat but with a light, delicate complexity and a beguiling finesse. Young, yet eminently mature, it defies us. It remains an enigma. We embrace that. Here, we pay tribute to its pedigree, to the land from which it came and the raw materials that gave it life: Octomore Scottish Barley. We believe challenging convention matters.

Jim McEwan of Bruichladdich

Tasting Notes – From Bruichladdich’s Head Distiller, Jim McEwan

Character: Magnificently muscular. Most heavily peated malts are so dry and phenolic there is little else to spark the senses, not so this young warrior who arouses pride and passion, transporting you to that most famous rock in the Atlantic Ocean – Islay – the beating heart of the Hebrides.

Color: Autumn sunshine/ citrine.

Nose: The first waves bring a combination of sea spray, spindrift, wet sea weed and hints of oily iodine. Then peat smoke with cracked black peppercorn and as the spirit reveals itself, stunning notes of heather flowers, lemon balm and water mint. It’s like watching a spiritual weaver create a tapestry from the Hebrides itself.

Taste: As the spirit breathes in the glass a subtle change takes place. Rising steadily comes the crisp, malted barley then the sweet oak, giving notes of vanilla, toasted rye bread and walnuts. Add a burst of fresh lime, poached apple and pear from distillation whilst always in the background the steady rhythm of the sea painting pictures in your mind of a people and place who know that single malt is the stuff of life, sustaining them for generations.

Finish: The senses will celebrate this genial, warm, thrilling experience long after the glass is empty. You will know that you have been on a journey by the warmth in your heart and the spirit in your soul

Bruichladdich Port Charlotte

Scottish Barley Heavily Peated

Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Bruichladdich Port Charlotte Scottish Barley Heavily Peated

Bring on the Peat

Peated to a heavyweight 40ppm, Port Charlotte Scottish Barley is a cuvee crafted from casks hand-picked by master distiller Jim McEwan. It showcases the supreme elegance of this remarkable single malt – a union of the classic floral elegance of Bruichladdich and heavy peat.

This whisky is testament to our belief that raw ingredients matter. Trickle distilled from 100% Scottish Barley the spirit gently matures in the lochside village of Port Charlotte before being bottled here at the distillery using Islay spring water.

Jim McEwan of Bruichladdich

Tasting Notes – From Bruichladdich’s Head Distiller,

Jim McEwan

Nose: Opening with assertive waves of peat smoke and Atlantic squall, the olfactory system is on high alert in anticipation of some major sensory excitement. A swell of aromatics flood the senses with notes of iodine, salty canvas, crushed sea shells, charred oak staves, black pepper, paprika and leather tobacco pouches. The second wave brings vanilla, figs and soft plump dates, marinated pear, freshly milled malt, dark sweet toffee and cracked walnuts. It’s smoky. It’s smoldering. It’s sensuous. Just close your eyes and inhale long and deep. This is aromatic awesomeness.

Taste: Waves of the sweetest, smoothest, warmest smokiest spirit that you have ever experienced flood onto the palate like the Atlantic surf on Saligo Bay. It is potent, focused and the flavors explode brilliantly onto the palate. Full of depth and complexity, the smoky sweetness of the barley contrasts beautifully with the marine freshness of the spirit and the richness of toffee and vanilla. The complexity is enhanced further with a citrus twist and then mellow oak tempers the fire. Once the taste buds adjust to what is happening, they rejoice in the company and pleasure of this young Celt.

Finish: It’s long and heart-warming, arousing feelings of pride and passion. It brings courage and strength, honesty and faith to your very soul.

Ardbeg Supernova 2014 – SOLD OUT

New Limited Release at Lukas Liquor Superstore

Ardbeg Supernova

2014 Committee Release

“The Ultimate” Islay Single Malt Scotch Whiskey

Ardbeg Supernova Islay SMSW

A Predecessor Returns

2011 was the year Ardbeg went to space. Millions of miles later, our experiment has made it back home and with it, the return of something equally monumental and just as eagerly awaited – Supernova. But something happened along the way. If it’s possible, this Supernova is even more out there than its 2009 Committee Release predecessor. The additional boost of sherry-matured stock has added ginger and cinnamon spiciness, a deep richness and a new dimension of sweetness. Its legendary peatiness – 100ppm – remains, making it one of the peatiest Ardbeg’s ever. Sharpen your ESP (extrasupernovary perception), close your eyes and taste. The result is earth-shattering.

The Experiment

While the Ardbeg Space Experiment progressed, Committee members across the globe busied themselves toasting the ISS as it passed overhead 15 times a day. Now it has returned and our whisky boffins can get to work. With clipboards at the ready, they are donning white coats and are set to unearth the outer-worldy secrets of micro-gravity maturation, versus maturation in Warehouse 3. They’ll be presenting their phenolic findings to the world at some point in the near future. Please tune in to ardbeg.com/space to follow their progress.

Ardbeg Supernova 2014 Committee Release

Tasting Notes:

Color: Bright gold.

Nose: Intense, zesty, smoked lemons and pears, lemongrass and pine needles, embedded in a deep, resinous, sticky waxy base. This initial, tangy vapor trails off, bringing in the tranquil whiff of salty, briny, seaweed-covered shores. More solid scents are then discovered, with the mineral-like tone of flint and granite, sooty smoke and a fresh, metholic stab of peppermint. Finally, a curious, sharp-sweet burst of delicious applewood smoked cheese is encountered.

Taste: Pepper and spice up front followed by peppermint and other medicinal tones. There are notes of dark birch tar intermingled with spicy-sweet chili flavored chocolate coating the entire mouth in luscious linseed oil.

Finish: The velocity increases, until it is almost off the scale, with rich flavors of tar, creosote, briarwood, spicy tobacco and licorice root.

Laphroaig Select Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

New Release at Lukas Liquor Superstore

Laphroaig Select

Islay Single Malt Whisky

 Laphroaig Select

 A ‘New’ Style

Laphroaig Select takes its name from the special selection of American and European casks, chosen for their unique character that they give during maturation. Our Inspiration for our new Global expression has been take from history – 70-80 years ago, the time of the last family member owner of the distillery, Ian Hunter. Ian was one of the biggest influences in the history of Laphroaig indeed he was one of the first distillers to travel to bourbon county in the USA to identify new sources of casks that would give him greater consistency as well as new flavors. He later married this ‘new’ style of Laphroaig with his traditionally matured (European cask) Laphroaig.

Inspired by his early work, we have used Oloroso sherry butts, straight American white oak (non-filled with bourbon), PX seasoned hogsheads, Quarter Casks and finally of course first fill Bourbon Casks. This varied cask maturation technique enabled us to create 6 new flavor combinations that were then tested with our FOL’s to choose their favorite style and indeed name. The winning flavor and name chosen by you is Laphroaig Select.

Laphroaig Select Tasting Notes:

Color: A Fully Natural color with no caramel added, it is sparkling gold with layers of color – arising from different maturations and oils mixing together.

Nose: Peat first, then ripe red fruits from the PX and Oloroso casks. A hint of dryness next from the American oak with a long lingering florally finish – Marzipan and even limes at the end.

Taste: This full bodied whisky is initially sweet up front- matching the nose, then the classic dry, peaty, ashy flavors come bounding in followed by a lovely rich finish arising from the rich fruits of the European casks.

Bowmore Devil’s Cask Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

New Release at Lukas Liquor Superstore

Bowmore Devil’s Casks

Small Batch Release

Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Bowmore Devils Cask

Devil in the Details

Legend has it that the devil once visited the church in Bowmore. Now if you’ve ever seen it, you’ll know that the church is circular, built that way (so it’s said) so there would be no corner in this the devil could hide. The local congregation spotted the devil and chased him down through the village, into the gates of Bowmore Distillery. Here, the warehousemen were filling casks and loading them aboard the paddle steamer, The Maid of Islay. Gates and doors locked tight shut, every inch of the distillery was searched, but to no avail. As legend goes, the devil escaped in a cask of Bowmore bound for the mainland.

Matured exclusively, and unusually in the finest first fill sherry casks, which help to bring out Bowmore’s hot and fiery characteristics, this small batch release is, quite simply, devilishly good!

Bowmore Devils Cask logo

Bowmore Devil’s Casks Tasting Notes:

Nose: Dark fruits, birch tar, the seductive warmth of old leather, brandy, fruitcake and maple syrup.

Taste: Rich fruitcake, tarry chocolate, lingering dark fruits, tobacco and angelica root.

Finish: Savor the exceptionally long, full-bodied finish.
